Postman Pat takes Flight is the eleventh episode of the second series which was broadcast on 13th March 1998. It was written by John Cunliffe.

Summary[]

Major Forbes prepares for a film show about his balloon flights across the world. When Pat arrives at Garner Hall, the Major asks Pat to climb onto the roof, untangle the string and cast him off into the sky. Unfortunately it sets off with Pat still clinging to the basket up and up and away!

Differences in the book and TV versions:

In the book version at the beginning, Pat wishes he could drop the letters down the chimneys like Father Christmas.

In the book version on the day after the film show, Pat tells Mrs Goggins about a dream he had about flying but in the end he decides to stick to his van.

Trivia[]

  • When the Major is presenting the film show of him flying in Africa, the film shows him flying his balloon over some sets from "Charlie Chalk" including Trader Jones's store.
  • The "Balloon Song" from the album "Postman Pat Volume 2 - The Big Album" is based on the events of the episode.

Goofs[]

  • When the balloon flies over the post office, its sign is missing.
  • The interior of Miss Hubbard's Cottage looks very different to how it was in Postman Pat and the Suit of Armour.
