Summary[]

A huge parcel arrives at the Post Office and it squashes Pat's glasses after he puts them down on the counter. Mrs. Goggins lends Pat one of her old pairs of glasses. Pat still can't see properly, meaning he can't read or drive, so Ted offers to take him in his lorry.

Cast[]

  • Ken Barrie as Pat, Ted Glen, Alf Thompson, the Reverend Timms, Major Forbes and the Main Narrator
  • Carole Boyd as Mrs. Goggins and Doctor Gilbertson

Differences between the TV and book versions[]

In the book version, when Pat and Ted arrive at Thompson Ground, Pat speaks to the Yellow Tractor mistaking it for Alf but he doesn’t do so in the TV version.

In the book version, Pat and Ted deliver letters to Greendale School where Pat mistakes Lucy Selby for Sarah Gilbertson. This doesn’t happen in the TV version.

The following characters only appear in the book version:

• Jess

• Lucy Selby

• Jeff Pringle

• Sarah Gilbertson (mentioned only)

• Sarah Gilbertson’s dad (mentioned)

This is also the only mentioning of Sylvia Gilbertson’s husband and Sarah’s father.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only episode to not feature Jess, despite the subtitling of this season. However Jess does appear in the book version.
  • This is the second episode that does not feature Pat's van after the special "Postman Pat takes the Bus".
  • The scene where Pat gives Alf his catalogue is used in the 1998-2005 ABC For Kids Video Promo.
  • Two spinning tops from the “Bertha” episode “The Best Machine Competition” are seen in the post office when Pat crashes into everything.
  • This is the first episode where Pat doesn’t do any driving.

Goofs[]

  • Even though this season is subtitled "Postman Pat and his Black and White Cat", Jess does not make an appearance in this episode.
  • When Pat falls into the wheelbarrow, there's a bit of Blu Tack on the handle which disappears when he gets up again.
  • Surely Pat would seen the Reverend’s old glasses on the counter before the parcel smashed them.
